Get Crunk with BrokeNCYDE
Mikl on the group’s current tour, wild fans and Lil’ Jon.

October 21, 2009 — How can one band simultaneously be the most loved and hated act around? Easy, if you’re BrokeNCYDE. The crunkcore quartet’s debut album, I’m Not a Fan… But the Kids Like It, received scathing reviews (Metal Edge called it “fucking horrendous”) yet they’ve managed to land a spot on this past summer’s Warped Tour and will continue playing jam-packed venues on the Crunk Kids Tour for the rest of the year. myMag asked Mikl how he deals with the haters and parties on tour.

You guys are currently on the Crunk Kids Tour, how’s that going so far?
Good, it’s going pretty well.

Is it what you expected crowd-wise?
Yeah, we’re really happy with the turnout. Even having just two people come out to your show is a blessing.

You’re finally able to perform the new songs live. How does your audience like them?
“Yellow Bus” is really fun live.

Did you guys always know you wanted to make music as a career or did that just happen?
It just happened, you know? Se7en and J have been doing music for a long time, but for me, it just happened.

What bands inspired you when you were younger?
I used to love Creed, I still do. They were my inspiration to start singing.

You toured with Jeffree Star earlier this year, what was that experience like?
It was cool. He’s a really cool guy. I’m happy to see people like that doing well.

You guys played Warped Tour too this summer. Did you ever attend as a fan in previous years?
No, I’ve been to like maybe three concerts in my whole entire life, so being able to do Warped Tour was just huge.

BrokeNCYDE has achieved a lot of fame in a short period of time. Has it been surreal for you?
Yeah, it’s crazy just how receptive and open-armed people are. There are a lot of people who don’t accept us and have narrow minds, but there are a lot of people nowadays with open minds.

You all must be receiving a lot of female attention at this point; do you ever get mobbed after shows?
Not really, after we get off stage we take a breather and wipe ourselves down from all the sweat and then go out and meet our fans.

Do you enjoy sticking around and signing stuff?
Yeah, we do this for our fans more than anything. We take pictures, sign autographs, everything.

Your album received a lot of negative reviews. Do you read record reviews?
I personally used to, but nobody else in the band cares and I’ve learned to not care what people say.

How do you deal with criticism?
I used to get really upset and take it to heart, but you just learn in this business that you have to have a tough skin. Now we just laugh it off and don’t care.

E-40 is featured in your song “Booty Call.” Is there anyone you’re hoping to collaborate with in the future?
We want to do a song with Lil’ Jon. We’re keeping our finger crossed that it’ll happen soon.

He seems like he’d be a natural choice for you guys.
Yeah, let’s hope we can get him though. We’ll see.

If someone asked you to describe Crunkcore, what would you tell them?
We get asked this all the time. I would say Lil’ Jon on crack.

Are you guys also fans of Crunk Juice?
Yeah, they support us a lot. We’re always drinking it and having it out, it’s good stuff.

Is that your fuel for your shows?
It’s our fuel for everyday life.

As a group that’s constantly on the road, do you always get along?
Yeah, we always get along. We’re fortunate to be one of those groups that have lasted.

What’s the craziest city you’ve played so far?
Buffalo, New York is always crazy. New York in general is always great. Denver and Utah too.

There's a difference between hating a band and saying a band sucks. Only problem in this scenario, brokeNCYDE isn't a band. A band performs music. brokeNCYDE doesn't perform music. They waste good beats with what they call "vocals". Their vocals are really just noise that make no sense at all. Quite frankly, they're just making themselves look like scene fags who think they're cool by screaming words about drugs and sex.

I think everyone is entitled to their opinions. It doesn't matter if you hate them or not. Personally I LOVE BrokenCYDE, and I'm definetely going to the 2 Drunk 2 Fuck Tour with Jefree Starr and BOTDF

I'm just gonna say this right here and right now. Fuck Brokencyde. They are the most blowful thing ever to happen in the history of the world. They're not making music. They're creating mindless noise. They scream around like a bunch of retards. Their lyrics are sex, drugs and alcohol and nothing more. It's fucking ridiculous. I'm giving E-40 one more chance. I am sorry that these guys' moms are pro-lifers. I'm sorry these guys' dads were too stupid to use condoms. But most of all, I'm sorry these guys' parents ever met.
