Get Crunk with BrokeNCYDE
Mikl on the group’s current tour, wild fans and Lil’ Jon.
October 21, 2009 — How can one band simultaneously be the most loved and hated act around? Easy, if you’re BrokeNCYDE. The crunkcore quartet’s debut album, I’m Not a Fan… But the Kids Like It, received scathing reviews (Metal Edge called it “fucking horrendous”) yet they’ve managed to land a spot on this past summer’s Warped Tour and will continue playing jam-packed venues on the Crunk Kids Tour for the rest of the year. myMag asked Mikl how he deals with the haters and parties on tour. You guys are currently on the Crunk Kids Tour, how’s that going so far? Is it what you expected crowd-wise? You’re finally able to perform the new songs live. How does your audience like them? Did you guys always know you wanted to make music as a career or did that just happen? What bands inspired you when you were younger? You toured with Jeffree Star earlier this year, what was that experience like? You guys played Warped Tour too this summer. Did you ever attend as a fan in previous years? BrokeNCYDE has achieved a lot of fame in a short period of time. Has it been surreal for you? You all must be receiving a lot of female attention at this point; do you ever get mobbed after shows? Do you enjoy sticking around and signing stuff? Your album received a lot of negative reviews. Do you read record reviews? How do you deal with criticism? E-40 is featured in your song “Booty Call.” Is there anyone you’re hoping to collaborate with in the future? He seems like he’d be a natural choice for you guys. If someone asked you to describe Crunkcore, what would you tell them? Are you guys also fans of Crunk Juice? Is that your fuel for your shows? As a group that’s constantly on the road, do you always get along? What’s the craziest city you’ve played so far?
