You may think that touring is nothing, but nonstop partying. Singer Daniel Cirera gives us a different view of the road.
After road tripping though Central America and the US for over two years, I landed back in the studio with my guitar and created a fresh album now in stores called "Honestly I love you *cough”. Being on the road can be stressful, exciting, exhausting and even fun some times. These are some of my thoughts from my experience traveling across America.
New York
"New York, New York big city of dreams.” I don't have a clue who I just quoted, but it sure is true. My Trip started here. High anticipations. High ambitions. Maybe I over did my ambitions a little bit in the beginning and ordered too many drinks? I don't know. That is usually how my ambitions are manifested. Don't remember. Don't really care, I had great time. What I do know is that I don't have one single picture from my days here. Probably for the better anyway...
Philly
Philadelphia is really one of those places that I wished I’d have stayed longer. But at least I got to experience Jim's Steak House. Or let me put it like this - I stood in line for a Philly cheese steak for 50 minutes and it was worth every minute. If you get the chance - you should stand in line too!
Boston
The cool thing about Boston, and specially Cambridge, is that it is totally unique. I've been to lots of places and many of them have thing that reminds you of somewhere else, Cambridge doesn’t. You can almost smell the sweet mix of intellectual youth and old tradition. I was fortunate to experience Boston in the fall. The foliage just blew me away. I almost get sentimental looking back at these pictures...
Ohio
Well.... what to say? I wouldn't wanna settle down here. Let just leave it at that!
I never liked places where everybody thinks the same and intellectual diversity is poorer than the donut selection at the coffee shop. Speaking of donuts. They should be banned since people here don't seem to be able to control their consumption. I have never seen so many grossly obese people in my entire life. If it wasn't for the very cool kids at Valparaiso University, I probably would have regretted my whole visit to Ohio.
Kentucky
My kentucky trip is easily summed up in one word "Highway". I don't remember much more than that... It's a blur. The picture says it all. I had to buy ass rash cream - that how many hours I spent in the car.
Seattle
Grunge was my religion from 8th grade on, so you could say my expectations were very high visiting Seattle. I knew it was gonna be rainy. I knew it was gonna be gray most of the time too (that is something I'm use to growing up in Sweden) but I never knew it was going to be this bad. It rained all the time. And as the drops hit my head I sang along with the Travis songs "Why does it always rain on me" silently for myself. Even though the climate in Seattle is worse than Sweden the city and vibe is awesome! The atmosphere of being in my music Mecca was more then I could have ever asked for and the show I played at Studio 7 was fantastic! People took their time and listened. It's like the bad weather’s made them more tolerable to whatever they are exposed to--in this case my music. Thanks Seattle. You are in my heart forever!
San Francisco
I think my relationship with SF got off to a bad start. You see I ended up in the worst heroin areas I ever have ever seen. And I have been to some (I lived in a rough area of Madrid for a couple of months... but that's like kindergarten compared to SF. Shit, I remember this one guy crawling on his belly in the middle of the street shouting at someone that wasn't there. Unfortunately this whole thing overshadowed the rest of my stay so I think I need a second chance with SF. From what I've heard from friends, SF is suppose to be amazing. So I'll settle for that. To end my thoughts on SF on a brighter note - here is a picture of my hotel pool. Not bad considering the bad area.
Chicago
I was the biggest tourist nerd I have ever been in Chicago. I did it all and my mobile phone camera was glowing due to all the pictures I took. Considering how f-ing cool it was, that is quite an achievement. I photographed everything from sky scrapers to a giant chrome peanut. I also spent Halloween in Chicago. The bartender guy was hysterical, I almost cracked a rib laughing every time I ordered a beer! The Hideout venue, where I played, was a nice little shack in the middle of an industrial site, but people and the atmosphere there rocked! I'm looking forward to my next trip to Chicago.
LA
LA is my home and my savior. Unpacking my stuff after two years in a suitcase felt like being reborn.
I live in Los Feliz, located 10 minutes north of Downtown and five minutes south of Griffith Park. I'm surrounded by the Franklin Hills and Silverlake. This is an artsy area with tons of cool shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. It's youthful and close to everything. I have lived in Santa Monica before and, aside from the closeness to the water Los Feliz has more of the things that I value in life - passion and creativity.
