I might be the only nerd who has a home library with just about every genre of books.
( and I do like hanging out with friends too!). Does anyone else love to read? even non-fiction?

I love the idea behind this cause. You open up the whole world to children when you teach them how to read, and provide them with books. I'm wondering what your favorite book was when you were growing up? Maybe we can all donate the books that changed our lives, so they can help change others too!

Damn, enough with Twilight already! IT'S NOT EVEN A GOOD BOOK.

AND I'VE READ IT. That Stephenie Meyer chick needs to stop "writing" books and get back in the kitchen where she belongs.

I don't care what any of you say, i'd rather read Dr. Seuss. Atleast his books had meaning.

If she could get that piece of crap published, i'm going to write my own novel. About hardcore zombies who come out during the day and SPARKLE...they also fuck each other for the lulz.

If I make millions. I will thank that bitch personally.

Believe it or not, reading a book for the day or doing word puzzles can actually increase your memory span by 30%.As far as other skills go, tetris was proven to increase stratagy plan and juggling was shown to inscrease brain matter. Your brain craves words too!

i think we should help encourage reading to other people. i think everyone should take the first book that they read and give it to a child, or donate that same book to goodwill. that way you feel more connected to the people you're helping. my first book was "goodnight moon." i'm going to go donate one to this children's school near me, or volunteer to read it to a class. i think that would help.

Hello. I was in Nicaragua this summer and have been trying since then to get a library started in La Chureca. La Chureca is the city dump where hundreds of people live--as you can understand, it is extremely unhealthy. So unhealthy that it is illegal for doctors to spend more than six hours a day there, where so many people live day in and day out.

If you have any connections with libraries, book publishers, ect--or you simply want more information--then let me know. I've been collecting Spanish books personally and would love to have more help.

(So you know, there is this wonderful woman living near there who has set up a small school, feeding center, and church in La Chureca. I believe that a library will help further their education and assist in drawing this community out of poverty.)

Why would you focus on putting a library inside a dump? My focus would be more towards getting the children away from living within a dump and then putting a library in that better environment. Most of the ones who live there use the dump as means to bring in money from recycling garbage etc. It is unfortunate for the children who are forced to live there due to the job profession of their parents. But building a library, town hall, supermarket all the things you normally want ro provide within a city / town may be more sustainable and of value within a better environment. I think that health and cleaning up the environment should be of higher priority for La Chureca.

Hi. Contact your local Rotary Club for donations of books. Last December, my mom (a past Rotary Club President) and my 17 yr old daughter went to Managua to deliver care packages to that city's "cihildren of the dump". Rotary Members from all over the US also went as the work that they do down there (in addition to thier own communities which is the primary focus) is ever appreciated.
