The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) estimates that
there are now 40 million people living with HIV or AIDS worldwide. Most of
them do not know they carry HIV and may be spreading the virus to others.
In the U.S., approximately one million people have HIV or AIDS, and 40,000
Americans become newly infected with HIV each year. According to the CDC,
it is estimated that a quarter of all people with HIV in the U.S. do not
know they are carrying the virus.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, AIDS has killed more than 25 million
people worldwide, including more than 500,000 Americans. AIDS has replaced
malaria and tuberculosis as the world's deadliest infectious disease among
adults and is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide. Fifteen million
children have been orphaned by the epidemic.

Kids are going to have sex. It has always been that way even in those so called
good kids days. They were still having sex but it was never talked about.
Condoms prevent aids and babies which is a good thing.

Michael, I have to disagree that giving condoms to teenagers is spreading aids.
Teaching abstinence alone is not going to solve any problems. Its unrealistic to
expect teen to not have sex. Its happened for decades even back when it was
something good kids didn't do. We need to teach responsibility. Teach them that
abstinence is the only 100% effective way to prevent pregnancy and STDs. But you
have to recognize that its going to happen and that teaching about condoms and
other methods will help as well.

If people want to stop AIDS, there are things we have to do as a nation that
people are just unwilling to do. Here's the list: 1. Stop giving condoms to high
school kids. That just tells them "it's ok to have sex before you're even
emotionally ready for it!" 2. Teach high school kids "ABSTINENCE!" 3. Let those
high school kids know how expensive children are. When I found out what my moms
bills were like when I was 13, I was scared out of my MIND! I didn't lose my
virginity until I was 22. That was how much it scared me. 4. Adults need to stay
pure until MARRIAGE! 5. Married couples need to stay true to each other and not
cheat. And here's where people are going to hate me, but it's the truth: 6.
Homosexual activity spreads more STD's than Heterosexual activity. AIDS had
almost 10 times the amount of infections from homosexual activity than
heterosexual activity. So, if homosexual activity stopped, so would most of the
most dangerous STD's, including AIDS.
