TEENS TACKLE ONLINE SAFETY WITH HELP OF SOCIALSAFETY.ORG
Free Nationwide Initiative to Educate Teachers, Parents and Students Started by myYearbook.com.s Teen Founders

NEW HOPE, Pa.--January 16, 2008 myYearbook.com, one of the most popular social networks on the Internet, and the only one started by two high school students, announced today the kick-off of an unprecedented effort to lead the charge in educating teens about Internet safety. The company, which joined an online safety coalition led by the New Jersey Attorney General's Office in September 2007, recently launched its own educational website: SocialSafety.org. Through SocialSafety.org, myYearbook has begun shipping hundreds of thousands of free educational packets to schools across the United States.

The educational packets are geared toward student, teacher and parent audiences, and cover topics including sexual predators, the perils of blogging, suicide warning signs, and cyber bullying. Schools can download and print the safety packets from www.SocialSafety.org or send a request online and the packets will be sent to them free of charge.

"As a myYearbook.com member and a teenager who spends a lot of time on the Web, I am passionate about the SocialSafety.org initiative to educate teens to build a safer world online," says Catherine Cook, myYearbook's eighteen-year-old co-founder. "In addition to promoting safer behaviors at our own site, it only makes sense to partner with schools to teach teens how to be safe at every site they visit on the Internet."

"The well-being of our members is very important to us, and education is the cornerstone of any Internet safety program," explained Don Eyer, myYearbook's VP of Safety, and a law enforcement veteran of more than 20 years. "myYearbook.com is providing free educational packets to any school requesting them to complement their Internet safety curriculums."
