(NEW HOPE, PA) January 29, 2010 -- myYearbook, the best place to meet new people and one of the 40 most-trafficked sites in the United States, today unveiled a fresh new website design chosen by their users. The creative design allows quick access to member profile information, friends, messages and Lunch Money by placing links to these sections on a navigation bar that is accessible everywhere on the site. The new design also places the site's Live Feed feature, a geostream of photo and status updates launched earlier in 2009, at the center of the website experience.
myYearbook's addition of a number of new social games over the years, such as Battles, Blind Date, Match and Causes, resulted in a crowded user interface. One month ago myYearbook put a challenge to their members: come up with a creative new website design to be voted on by myYearbook members. Through this crowdsourcing effort, myYearbook members submitted hundreds of design ideas and tens of thousands of myYearbook members voted to choose a winning new design. A prize of $1M Lunch Money, the site's popular and much-sought-after virtual currency, was offered for each of the 20 best concepts.
Live Feed, the popular geostream of photo and status updates launched earlier in 2009, is now front and center on the redesigned site. Live Feed lets people broadcast their status in a real-time stream through text and pictures to the entire myYearbook community. Averaging over 700,000 posts per day, Live Feed has proven popular with users by making it easy to discover people near them and by having richer photo commenting ability.
"A redesign can be a touchy topic for users -- many of whom have been with the site for years and have grown accustomed to the current design, but we also knew it was time for a change. We've been seeing Live Feed grow by double-digit percentage points every month and we also needed room in our navigation bar to add a number of new social games this year, so we knew it was time for the current design to evolve," said Geoff Cook, CEO of myYearbook. "We thought, who better to ask about a fresh design than our own users? We believe this design will help set the stage for a strong 2010 as we continue to innovate our geostream Live Feed, reduce barriers to communication, and surface interesting, compatible people to make myYearbook the best place to meet new people online."
The new design also makes it easier for members to manage their own myYearbook applications by customizing the way they access the features they use the most. This is myYearbook's second major site redesign since its inception; the last was in 2007. Major pieces of the new site design are now live and ready to explore on myYearbook, including a new header, logo, navigation bar, and footer. Sneak peeks of the new member home page, launching in February, are available at http://trends.myyearbook.com and demonstrate the importance of the geostream to myYearbook.
