I want to paint my face
And pretend that I am someone else
Sometimes I get so fed up
I don't even want to look at myself
But people have problems that are worse than mine
I don't want you to think I'm complaining all the time
And I hate the way you look at me I have to say
I wish I could start over
[Chorus]
I am slowly falling apart
I wish you'd take a walk in my shoes for a start
You might think it's easy being me
You just stand still, look pretty
Sometimes I find myself shaking
In the middle of the night
And then it hits me and I can't
Even believe this is my life
But people have problems that are worse than mine
I don't want you to think I'm complaining all the time
And I wish that everyone would go and shut their mouths
I'm not strong enough to deal with it
All life is Wakan. So also is everything
which exhibits power, whether in
action, as the winds and drifting
clouds, or in passive endurance, as
the boulder by the wayside. For even
the commonest sticks and stones have
a spiritual essence which must be
revered as a manifestation of the all-
pervading mysterious power that fills
the universe.

Can I convince you of your great importance?
You are the captain of your personal ship, the
guide to your greatest dream. See yourself the way
you want to be. See yourself as a giver and a receiver.
Look for ways to be wiser and not sorry. Find the
path to happiness that is your spirit. Too few have
heard their own praises lauded. No one thinks to tell
you how much you mean to them. Remember, you
have to be kind to yourself so that you can be kind
to others. If you have to go back to childhood to
recall being loved, do so. Think how wonderful it
was to share in something called love and kindness.
If it was not there, then put it there in your heart.
Never tell yourself you are not worthy, because you
are more worthy than you will ever know. No one
was put on this earth by accident, but for a purpose.
Find that purpose and be who you want to be.
We looked up to the Great Spirit.
-BLACK HAWK, SAUK
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life:
"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy. "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. This same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,"Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
Tell a Friend-American Indian Proverb
"The honor of the people lies in the moccasin
tracks of the women. Walk the good road....Be
dutiful, respectful, gentle and modest my
daughter....Be strong with the warm, strong
heart of the earth. No people goes down until
their women are weak and dishonored, or dead
upon the ground. Be strong and sing the strength
of the Great Powers within you, all around you."
-Village Wise Man, SIOUX
The Elders say the Native American woman
will lead the healing among the tribes. We
need to especially pray for our women, and
ask the Creator to bless them and give them
strength. Inside them are the powers of love
and strength given by the Moon and Earth.
When everyone else gives up, it is the woman
who sings the songs of strength. She is the
backbone of the people. So, to our women we
say, sing your songs of strength; pray for your
special powers; keep our people strong; be
respectful, gentle and modest.
Our people need you.
Oh, Great
One, bless our
women. Make
them strong
today.
